All I needed to do was put a brick on top of the hive.
Because I didn't do my part to protect my bees, they died. I went out to check on them on Christmas Eve, and they were very dead. The wind had blown the outer cover off, and they couldn't take it. I still want to get a few hives going, and this won't stop me, but it saddens me to know that I could have done better.
Stay tuned in 2006 for further adventures!

Roy,
Sorry to hear of your misfortune, hope you have better luck next year. Don't be discouraged, we all struggle with things we "could have done better".
Hey Roy,
I see that you commented on my blog... last October! I thought no one reads them, so I never check.
Thanks for contacting me. I was hoping to drop you a note, so I looked for something I could relate with. This was it! I lost two hives this winter because they weren't insulated well enough. A friend suggested straw, but I didn't have any. I tried hay, but that didn't do it :(
It's a late night, but I'll be sure to stop by again and read your other entries.
Cheers,
